Black Flood Diesel Roars with “Homewrecker”

Black Flood Diesel Homewrecker

One of my most exhilarating projects of 2017 has been aiding a Twin Cities metal band named Black Flood Diesel (also referred to as “BFD”) with the launch of their new EP, “Homewrecker”.

From CD design to social strategy, I’ve helped the band return to the fold after a hiatus from the metal scene. I’ve been friends with lead singer Greg Moog since the early 2000s, when I was working with other local rock bands for the same purposes, and my effort with the band has been a great honor. I recently interviewed Greg about the band, their new EP and where they’re headed in the future. Anybody that loves their music heavy and their grooves hard should absolutely get acquainted with their catalog as soon as possible.

In the near future, I will have blogs that focus on the album, upcoming videos and individual tracks from the album. For now, check out this Q&A with Greg Moog and Black Flood Diesel. If you like what you hear, be sure to attend the Homewrecker EP release party at Lee’s Liquor Lounge in Minneapolis on October 28th![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="1792" img_size="full"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Who is Black Flood Diesel?

Black Flood Diesel was formed in the year 2000 by founding member Greg Moog. The band quickly became poised to take the greater Midwest by storm. To date, BFD has toured nationally multiple times, shared the stage with Staind, System of a Down, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, American Head Charge, 40 Below Summer, No One, Cold, Wayne Static, and many other established artists. Having played festivals before 35,000 people two years running has allowed Black Flood Diesel to maintain capacity crowds at highly regarded venues such as First Avenue in Minneapolis.

With a growing allegiance of national touring artists behind them, BFD has been able to break into markets such as Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Des Moines and Fargo, spawning radio airplay in the Midwest and beyond. BFD has been featured in main events of the the Ultimate Fighting Championship and on the 2004 release of Ultimate Beatdowns Vol.1 Metal on Nitrus/DRT records. (source: Reverbnation)

The band is currently comprised of the following rockers:

  • Greg Moog (Vocals)
  • Don Tinsley (Guitar)
  • Chris Winter (Guitar)
  • Max Million (Bass)
  • Chris Emery (Drums)

As a band they bring over a century of combined live/touring experience to the stage.

Where did the Black Flood Diesel name come from?

Upon formation of the band, the name was created as a type of description of the sonic/creative vibe that they aimed to produce while writing the music.

What is the sound and vibe of Black Flood Diesel?

Gutter groove metal, source-driven darkness. Both the commercial and the underground sides of heavy metal will find Black Flood Diesel in their respective wheelhouses.

They’re seasoned, with a grasp on efficient and compacted songwriting. They understand the concept of simplicity, yet at the same time grasp how important it is to showcase each member’s strong suits that set them above and beyond the other bands in their genre.

What are the goals of Black Flood Diesel?

They try to keep things as raw, yet polished, as possible. They’ve always been big on the concept of keeping things as organic and heavy as possible. Vocally, they are conscious of the hook being as big of a part of the song as the heavier parts of the music…..creating a sonic dynamic that allows them crossover appeal.

1) To make sure that the music they create remains fresh and full of integrity.

2) To bring back the concept of simply having a good fucking time playing music together (novel idea, right?)

3) To get new people acquainted with not only the new Homewrecker EP, but also with the extensive catalog of material that the band has produced over the past 18 years.

What are some of the band influences?

Pantera, Testament, Guns n’ Roses, Ministry

What is the inspiration behind the “Homewrecker” concept?

According to lead singer Greg Moog, “It’s an inside joke, regarding some ratchet-ass strippers from back in the Double Deuce days, also translating over into today when we go to BJ’s strip club in the neighborhood of our practice space. For this project, I approached it in a different manner…...drawing less directly on personal experiences and stories, and more from descriptive terms and phrases that I felt COLORED some of my past experiences.“

What are some of the themes that resonate with the new “Homewrecker” EP?

Self-deprecation, human objectification, sex, empowerment, chaos, omniscience
